This book is aimed at both the newcomer to monochrome photography and to the more experienced printer who wants to produce fine images using traditional and current printing techniques. The authors begin by explaining various methods to produce a perfect negative before going on to describe some of the many beautiful and varied processes, that were developed and used during the last century, but still have enormous relevance to today's monochrome photographer. They examine the different methods of using light sensitive material, including the earliest photographic processes, and many other traditional techniques such as gum bichromate, which are gaining favor with many contemporary photographers.
